Atlanta Boy Choir Welcomes Back
Founding Director Fletcher Wolfe

Wolfe will Serve as Interim Director

The Board of Trustees of the Atlanta Boy Choir is pleased to announce the return of founding director and conductor emeritus Fletcher Wolfe.  Mr. Wolfe is coming out of retirement and returning to Atlanta to lead the group until the board selects a permanent director.  Mr. Wolfe has offered his services to the choir for one year on a pro bono basis.

John Hudson, Chairman of the Atlanta Boy Choir Board of Trustees announced,  “The Board of Trustees is honored and delighted to accept Fletcher Wolfe’s gracious offer to return to Atlanta to serve as the Interim Director of the Atlanta Boy Choir.  The Atlanta Boy Choir was established to be one of Atlanta’s premier performing arts organizations.”   Hudson further stated, “Under Fletcher Wolfe’s direction in year’s past, the Choir established an international reputation for excellence and received a Grammy Award in 1989 for its recording of Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem with the Atlanta Symphony and the late Robert Shaw.  We look forward, under Fletcher’s direction, to achieving a similar high level of musical artistry in the future.”

“I was fortunate to be the founding director of the Atlanta Boy Choir, and I have had so many marvelous experiences with the group over the many years I was associated with the Choir.  I was heartened that many alumni encouraged me to return to the helm of the choir as we search for a new permanent director, and I was very pleased to accept this opportunity.  We are already planning an exciting season for the Choir, and it will culminate in an important international tour to England, Scotland and Wales,” said Fletcher Wolfe.

Mr. Wolfe will be joined by long-time assistant, Dr. Lawrence Weaver, a graduate of Morehouse University and the University of Michigan.  Also returning is pianist Dr. Robert Henry, who previously served along side Mr. Wolfe as staff accompanist.   Dr. Henry is an award winning international concert pianist and has been a featured soloist with the Atlanta Symphony.   He is currently on the faculty of Kennesaw State University.

Mr. Wolfe began his long and distinguished vocal career by studying with Robert Shaw and Nadia Boulanger.  He has performed at Carnegie Hall as well as in concert halls across the United States and Europe.  In addition to founding and directing the Atlanta Boy Choir, Mr. Wolfe also founded the Atlanta Chamber Opera Society and the Renaissance Singers, and started the Georgia Festival of the Arts in Italy.  He is a recipient numerous honors and awards including the Georgia Governor’s Award in the Arts, the award of the title of Commendatore presented by the President of Italy for his contribution to the arts and was bestowed the title of Knight of Malta by Prime Minister Fanfani at a ceremony at the Villa Guilia in Rome.  After retiring from the Atlanta Boy Choir in 2001, Mr. Wolfe moved to Texas, where he created a new music program at the San Antonio Military Academy.  Mr. Wolfe and his wife Bobbe live in Sky Valley, Georgia.
