As part of students’ 4th and 5th grade history studies and The Epstein School's year-long celebration of the arts, Emily Hermans, School Project Coordinator for the High Museum, visited the school, known to have a strong commitment to the arts.
With her, was theatrical actress Suehyla El-Attar, who together educated, entertained and enchanted Epstein students about the great Italian artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci. Students were able to get a glimpse into the life and the genius of the great master.
The visit began with students participating in an interview with “Maria,” the assistant to Leonardo (portrayed by Suehyla) who was looking to fill the position of apprentice to Leonardo da Vinci.
In the process, students learned ab out Leonardo’s life, history, work, likes and dislikes. The experience culminated in a wonderful graphic slide show of the great Renaissance works of Leonardo and the history behind them.
The presentation was a glimpse into the latest exhibit at the High Museum entitled, Leonardo da Vinci Hand of the Genius on display from October 6, 2009 – February 21, 2010.
